Press release: 21/06/2013 – For immediate release

Organisers of the Windsor Half Marathon, which takes place in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead on Sunday 29th September for the 31st time, have confirmed that the new charity structure introduced for the 2013 race has seen a fantastic response from charities and runners alike.

For the first time in more than three decades, the organisers took the decision to open the race up to charities and offer a range of packages, allowing charities of all sizes to use the race as a platform to raise awareness and vital funds.

The Windsor Half Marathon is one of the most popular and most iconic races on the British running calendar with places selling out within weeks of the opening of registration. This was no different in 2013, with all public places snapped up before the end of April.

Scope, who offers practical support from information services to education and everyday care for disabled people and their families, was the first charity to be announced on the Gold Level. Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research took the first spot on the Silver Level whilst other official charities include CRY, Clic Sargent, Childlife, Three:Eighteen, Camp Simcha, Alzheimer’s Society as well as the Founding Charity Crash.

Windsor Half Marathon Race Director Peter Hier commented: “We are excited to be working with a range of charities, and proud that our prestigious event allows charities of all sizes to get visibility and to raise money for their causes.

“The feedback from the charities has been very positive and we look forward to building on this year’s success for years to come.”

The Windsor Half Marathon takes place in Windsor Great Park and is run on traffic free roads with the start and finish on The Long Walk, offering stunning views with Windsor Castle in the backdrop.
